Hi all!
A friend of mine gave me a george forman grill that she hasn't used in a while. However, I'm nervous to use it lol..
1st of all, I know that the grill comes with a plastic tray for fat and such to drip in to however my friend lost that part of the grill so I don't have that part. Also, I don't have the plastic spatchula that comes with it I literely just have the grill.
It does grill on both sides (when you close the lid) and it heats up fine I plugged it in to test it. I've also gone online to see about grilling times for meats and such..
I'm nervous to use it because I put the grill on a glass plate for the plate to catch the drippings however I'm just not sure if this is a wise thing to do? The grill tilted pretty forward in my opinion..and I just wanted to grill a simple chicken breast lol..
It's back to tv dinners until I can figure this thing out so any advice, suggestions on how to fix my problem would be so appreciated!!
what version of the foreman do you have? like where does the grease come out. if it's along the whole front you may have to look for a new tray but if it only comes out of one spot a small bowl or cup will work perfectly. Don't be afraid to work with the grill a bit, it's pretty forgiving when it comes to cooking. Have one myself and it's one of my most used appliances in the kitchen.
I lost my grease tray as well, so I use a small metal cookie sheet with aluminum foil over it to catch the grease. then, once it cools, I just take the foil off, fold in the corners and throw it in the trash. If I do it without puncturing the foil in the process, the cookie sheet is still spotless afterwards. if not, then some soap and water will do the trick. Other than that, it's really easy. If you want to get a pretty good idea if your meat is cooked, a pretty good indicator is to apply a small amount of pressure to the top of the grill. If the meat suddenly starts hissing and sizzling more, it probably needs another minute or two. If not, then it's probably done.
That said, I've heard that it's possible to cook waffles on the grill. I have no idea how this would work, so if anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear about it. I still have yet to make a perfect pancake, so being able to do waffles on the George forman would make my day! haha.
i can't do pancakes ither..lol..I can't cook well. Hense looking forward to using this.
The greese comes out the intire front slot thing..
I'll try the cookie sheet idea with the foyal..good one didn't think of that! do you use one or two layers of it on the sheet? Just don't want to make a mess..
As for the meat cooking and pressing on the top that's a good tip! These are great thanks so much keep them coming! :)
I use mine for grilled chees sandwiches. Bacon also turns out good. I've used a glass plate to catch grease before and it worked fine.
As for how much foil to use, that depends how heavy it is. If you have the thinner, cheaper kind, you may want to use two sheets. But if you have the industrial, heavy duty kind, one should work just fine.
Yes, grilled cheese is wonderful on the George forman grill, but sometimes the weight of the grill flattens the sandwich a bit. It doesn't change the taste, though.
yummy! though, i don't know how long would you cook the grilled chese for? do you butter both sides like a normal sandwitch?
How do you cook bacon with out burning it how long does that usually take?
I'm really good usually following instructions so anything spasific is awesome!
Yes, you do still butter both sides. The only difference is that you don't have to flip it halfway through. I find about 5 minutes to be best, but go by the smell. If the bread starts to smell very cooked, like it does with the darkest setting on a regular toaster, that might be a little too much. Likewise, if the cheese starts changing scent from the melted cheese smell that I'm sure we all love, to a more baked and hardened smell, that's also a bit much. Sorry, I can't think of a better way to describe that without actually physically showing you the smells I mean. Lol
lol no problem! I'll just keep an eye on it..or rather I'll keep my nose on it lol! Ok, I know that was lame but hopefully it made someone smile..Very interesting! :) Thanks so much!
